History of Jaguar
When it was founded in 1922, Jaguar went by the name the Swallow Sidecar Company and they were a long way off producing the luxurious cars they are famed for today.
Instead they focussed on side carts, as the name suggests, but they quickly moved on to designing and creating car parts for other manufacturers.
Company founders Walmsley and Lyons worked alongside Fiat and the Standard Motor Company before the Second World War took hold and they utilised their skills in engineering to contribute to war efforts.
It was also during WW2 that their name changed to Jaguar. This was an attempt to distance themselves with the Nazi SS who bore the same initials.
In the years that followed the war, production at Jaguar resumed and they began producing cars for themselves. They achieved multiple victories at the Le Man 24 Hours Race with the C-type, D-type and E-type.
In the 1970´s Jaguar ran into some financial trouble. In an attempt to salvage the brand, Jaguar has changed hands several times, until the company was bought by Ford in 1989.
After 30 successful years under the Ford umbrella, Jaguar was sold Tata Motors. The Indian giant combined two of the companies they had required to form Jaguar Land Rover in 2013.
It looks to have cemented Jaguar´s future in the luxury car sector so they´ll be around to enjoy for many years to come. Rent a Jaguar E Pace with Europe Luxury Services to experience the progression for yourself.
