History of Maserati
Maserati was founded in 1914 in Bologna by brothers Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati. They were later joined by two other family members, Mario and Bindo and together they designed and created fast cars with Italian flare.
In 1937 Maserati changed hands to the Orsi family, but despite the change of ownership, the Maserati brothers remained active behind the scenes.
With the start of the Second World War, Maserati halted their race car production and began manufacturing essential parts to contribute to war efforts.
The 1950´s saw the birth of Formula 1 and Maserati were on the starting grid for the first race. A rivalry developed between Maserati and Ferrari, but this was quashed in 1957 when Orsi closed down the racing portion of Maserati to focus on creating fast cars for the road.
This decision would lead the Italian manufacturer to the Maserati´s we know today and appreciate today.
The original Quattroporte hit the road in 1963 and it’s been passionately developed since then.
