History of Mercedes
When it was first established in 1925, Mercedes Benz went by the name Daimler-Benz after its creators Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler joined forces. Both men were active in the motor industry for many years before the company was established.
In 1886, Karl Benz designed and produced the Ben Patent Motor Wagon, which was credited as being the first car to be invented by the Guinness Book of Records and an outstanding feat of engineering at the time. While Gottlieb Daimler invented the first ever gas-powered engine to be used in cars, releasing the Mercedes Daimler in 1901, so they both had plenty of experience to offer.
Once they joined forces to develop Mercedes Benz, they created a brand that stood for luxury and prestige in the automobile world and they made their intentions clear with their chosen slogan “Das Beste oder Nichts”, which translates to “The Best or Nothing”.
